Sample Practice Questions & Model Answers

Theme: Health and Nutrition

Question Type 1 (Picture Analysis): What is the girl thinking and feeling in the picture?

Answer:

Point: The girl seems to be very happy.

Elaboration: She looks like she is outdoors under the sun in a park surrounded by nature. I think she is happy because she is outdoors on a nice day. She has a large slice of watermelon in her hands, which she seems to be enjoying. I believe that the watermelon must be very sweet and juicy based on her facial expression. In the background, there is a large bowl of sliced watermelon, which implies that her happiness is due to the many slices of watermelon she can eat.

Theme: Road Safety

Question Type 2 (Personal Response): Do you think road safety is important? Why/Why not?

Answer:

Point: I think road safety is important because of the seriousness of the injuries that can result from the failure to follow traffic rules.
Reason: If pedestrians ignore safety rules, like the boy in the picture who crosses when the red man is on, they risk being hit by a vehicle. This danger is even greater for children, as their small size makes them harder for drivers to see, especially if the driver is distracted. Such accidents can lead to serious injuries or even death.

Example: My parents always remind me never to cross when the red man is on, because it's dangerous and we could be hit by a vehicle.

Theme: Bullying

Question Type 3 (Thematic): Do you think it is important to stop bullying? Why?

Answer:

Point: Yes, bullying must be stopped because it can cause serious physical and long-lasting psychological harm to its victims.

Example: I have a friend who was bullied when he was very young. The experience left him deeply traumatised. He became extremely quiet and withdrawn, especially in crowded places. The bully often mocked his appearance, which made him feel ashamed of how he looked. Even now, years later, he still struggles with low self-esteem and believes he is unattractive.

Elaboration: This shows that the psychological damage caused by bullying can be severe and long-lasting, far more harmful than physical injuries, which usually heal over time. Emotional scars, however, may stay with a person for life. Allowing bullying to continue in any community is deeply unjust.

Link:Therefore, I strongly believe that bullying must be stopped to protect the mental and emotional well-being of everyone.
